Ballerina of the Bayou

Lyrics and Music by Mike Darnell © 2005

Turning cartwheels on the water
Pirouettes beneath the trees
Sunlight fading into darkness
Silhouettes on cypress knees

Spanish moss will be your curtain
And the earth will be your stage
While the story is never ending
Every day is just another page

Ballerina of the bayou
Dancing in the cool night air
Southern stars shine down upon you
Moonbeams light your auburn hair

The night wind is your music
All God’s creatures keeping time
And the dance is never ending
While the bayou slowly winds

So another act is ending
And the sun is soon to rise
Hang your slippers on the sweet gum
Take a bow and close your eyes

Ballerina of the bayou
Dancing in the cool night air
Southern stars shine down upon you
Moonbeams light your auburn hair
